R U Ok? Day

A Promise Kept; A Celebration Delivered

I keep telling myself that I won’t make any mistakes with the next event—and this time, I delivered on that promise! With R U OK? Day around the corner, I knew I had the perfect opportunity to make the day special. As I mentioned in the previous blog, I had to put our "Rock the Mic Fest" on hold earlier, but this time, I decided to combine the two: a meaningful R U OK? Day celebration paired with the musical fun of Rock the Mic Fest. And let me tell you, it was worth the wait!

The excitement doubled when I found out that we’d be hosting the event in our brand-new recreational hall, a space much bigger than our old venue. It was a chance to make the day even more memorable for our participants. As always, my incredible coworkers had my back, helping make the whole thing come together. Even our company director pitched in, organising a moving truck to deliver couches to the new space—because every good karaoke fest needs a comfy seat!

Claire, our amazing Case Manager (CM), and Hannah, our go-to Compliance Manager, helped me put together a list for food. This time, we decided to mix things up by skipping the BBQ and focusing on some delicious alternatives. Our facilities Manager also lent a hand, joining me on a shopping trip for all the kitchen supplies and décor we needed to transform the hall into a cozy and vibrant space.

The day before the big event, I spent some time with a couple of our participants and our master baker Kathryn (Support Worker) baking cupcakes for the occasion. It was a fun and messy time in the kitchen, but we made it through with some seriously tasty cupcakes. Lily from our office made sure everything was sorted, keeping the baking chaos under control—thank you, Lily!

Next up was cleaning and arranging the venue, and I couldn’t have done it without the Facilities Manager and our hardworking support worker Namgay. They took charge of vacuuming and setting up the hall, making it look spotless and ready for the celebration.

When the day finally arrived, it was all hands-on deck! Our support workers helped get the food ready right on time, and by 11:00 AM, we started our event. Everyone enjoyed the cupcakes and snacks, and the atmosphere was full of positivity and support, which was perfect for R U OK? Day.

Our star support workers Kuenzang Galay, Lu and our case manager Yangchen stole the show with some incredible songs, and the participants couldn’t help but join in, dancing and jamming to the beat. It was a magical experience seeing everyone let loose, connect, and celebrate together.

The event wrapped up with a special performance from one of our participants, ending the day on a high note. It was hands down the best event we’ve hosted so far, a day filled with music, connection, and genuine joy. I’m already looking forward to hosting the next event—perhaps a festive Christmas celebration is on the horizon?
