Fridays at Our Recreational Centre

Fridays are a special day at our recreational centre, where participants gather for social interaction, creativity, and meaningful engagement. The day is designed to be welcoming and inclusive, giving everyone an opportunity to enjoy activities, connect with peers, and express themselves freely.

Fun and Engagement

From the moment participants arrive, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Some enjoy quiet conversation over tea, while others dive straight into creative projects or games. Activities cater to a wide range of interests, allowing participants to engage in ways that feel comfortable and rewarding.

Participants can:

  • Socialise and build friendships through shared conversation and group activities
  • Explore creativity with arts, crafts, and collaborative projects
  • Participate in games, challenges, or problem-solving tasks
  • Share stories, experiences, and ideas with other participants

Support workers are present throughout the day to guide, encourage, and provide reassurance. They help participants feel confident to try new experiences while respecting their pace and preferences. Whether it is learning a new skill, completing a craft, or enjoying familiar activities, Fridays offer a space for growth, connection, and fun.

Quarterly Events

Every three months, we host larger events that provide extra excitement and opportunity for participation. Celebrations include:

  • Cultural and festive celebrations, such as Christmas and Easter
  • National events, like Harmony Day and ANZAC Day
  • Awareness and wellbeing days, including Mental Health Week

During these themed events, support workers and participants attend and enjoy a planned program designed to engage and inspire. Each event features interesting activities, from creative projects like painting, crafting, or sculpting, to performances, music, and storytelling. Later in the day, participants and support workers come together to join hands-on activities, and this also works towards building rapport and trust.

These events have become a regular highlight in our calendar, and participants now look forward to them, knowing what is coming up. Attendance and engagement have grown steadily, with more participants taking part each time.

Why do our activities and events matter?

These activities offer a new experience for participants who often prefer to spend time indoors, bringing the community to them in ways that are accessible, comfortable, and engaging. Every program is designed with participants in mind, ensuring that everyone can take part at their own pace and feel included.

The goal of these sessions is to create continuity in community engagement, encouraging participants to connect, try new things, and enjoy shared experiences. By focusing on choice, comfort, and meaningful participation, Jane’s Care activities help participants feel valued, supported, and part of a community that celebrates their contributions and individuality.
